Full-time semester courses consist of six levels of instruction at 18 hours per week. In order to determine their level, students who register for the first time pass a test during the pre-entry week.

See to what level you correspond

  • Level A1: Basic level
  • Level A2: Advanced elementary level
  • Level B1: Intermediate level
  • Level B2: Intermediate intermediate level
  • Level C1: Advanced level
  • Level C2: Advanced level


Students at the A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2 levels take an exam at the end of the semester to obtain a University Diploma in French as a Foreign Language.

The transcripts can be downloaded from the Student Intranet. Upon successful completion, the University Diploma is awarded at the end of the semester.

Students are notified by e-mail that the Diploma should be withdrawn at the Registrar’s office (Scolarité).
A certificate of attendance can be provided by i-FLE.





Prerequisites training

These courses are reserved for non-French speaking nationals wishing to acquire or improve their knowledge of French.
The candidate must be 18 years old and have a High school diploma or more.

  • Notification will be send by e-mail from December 3-7
You must attach to your application a copy of all the necessary documents (the originals will be requested in France)

- Secondary school diploma or more and translation
- Excerpt of birth certificate and translation OR Passport (Excerpt of birth certificate : A certified translation by an official body or a sworn translator must be provided)
- Resume + Letter of motivation in French, English or Spanish

Notification will be send by e-mail from December 3-7

  • If you are selected, you will receive an authorization of registration and a notification to attend (convocation).
  • In France, you will have to present yourself to the Registrar’s Office (Scolarité)
  • You must come to Nantes on the date indicated in your notification to attend.
  • Make sure to take the necessary steps to obtain your student visa.
